Prescott Crawfish - Sep 11th, 2008 3:41pm |

I suppose when someone things of Prescott, Arizona - the very last possible thing on their mind is that its a great town for crawfish. Surprisingly though, the cold weather and mountain lakes actually make for quite the catch if you have a little patience and some bacon of course. For the first time in a long time I went fishing just for crawfish with my folks. We actually tried several different things - a drop net with bacon and chicken tied to it, a minnow trap stuffed with chicken and poles with bacon and weights tied on the end (no hooks). While we did catch a few with the trap and net, most of what became lunch shortly thereafter was caught on the baconized fishing poles in 4 or 5 feet of water around the rocks.
We saw other folks there trapping the tasty little morsels too. One group had a half dozen traps that looked a lot more efficient than our minnow trap (which caught bluegill as opposed to minnows or crawdads). I think people are just tossing their traps out in the morning and going in getting them later that day - urban lobster fisherman of sort.
The pictures say the rest - was a delicious and relaxing weekend up in the mountains.
